Cogeneration Configuration
To meet the building's electricity, heating and cooling requirements, a 1 megawatt cogeneration plant with absorption chiller and plate heat exchanger was installed in the building's basement next to the buildings air conditioning and boiler plant.
The system operates only during the peak demand period with electricity imported from the grid during off-peak periods. It is configured in building load follow mode with excess electricity generated being exported to the electricity grid.
Benefits
The benefits to the client include:
Cost savings - the system delivers reduced energy costs of approximately 10% per annum
Exceptional reliability - the electricity grid is used for emergency backup or during maintenance downtime of the cogeneration plant.
Enhanced sustainability - the building is more energy efficient with CO2 emission savings of approximately 4,000 tons of CO2 per year
